INTRO  (Tuesday 25/02/21). Hello everyone, I’m Lee Campbell, an artist, writer and performance poet. It’s LGBT History month this month. and to celebrate , I’ve invited a bunch of  very talented individuals  to perform tonight and on this show on Thursday who like me are currently making waves on the queer performance poetry scene. Coming up tonight you’ll hear poems by me and the brilliant Andreena Leeanne and then on Thursday night you’ll get to hear Annalbelszki and Barney Ashton- Bullock and another short piece by me. So, let’s begin tonight with one of my poems.  Tonight, I will be performing a piece I’ve written called  WRONG KIND OF FAT: THE SNAKE INSIDE. Comedy historically comes from a queer identity defence, when it was harder to be gay in public, to be funny like Kenneth Williams who used gay slang known as Polari to communicate with other gay men covertly. As a means to express as well as emotionally protect, gay men have historically and today embrace and use camp, daftness and a range of comedy forms in subversive and often surprising ways. My poems use a lot of humour and comedy to address really personal raw painful subject matter.  Tonight’s poem is no exception. It uses humour, innuendo and word puns to address and critique what are really complex issues around body image and identity labels within the gay male community, issues which indeed have affected my life as a gay man who grew up in Kent but now lives in London. INTRO  (Thursday 27/02/21 Hello everyone, I’m Lee Campbell, an artist, writer and performance poet. It’s LGBT History month this month. and to celebrate  that,  following on Tuesday’s show with me and brilliant poet Andreena Leanne, I’ve invited two very talented individuals  to perform tonight who like me and Andreena are currently making waves on the queer performance poetry scene. We will begin with one of my poems called CLEVER AT SEEING WITHOUT BEING SEEN which explores when I discovered my sexuality in the 1990s living in Kent  in and around Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone. Like the poem I performed on Tuesday, loads of humour and comedy to address really personal raw painful subject matter. Then a piece called Through the Lens by the brilliant performer Annabelszki and to finish a piece entitled REMEMBRANCE by the enigmatic poet Barney Ashton- Bullock. So, to begin here is me performing CLEVER AT SEEING WITHOUT BEING SEEN. If you would like further details on what I do please go to my twitter and Instagram accounts both leejjcampbell.
